Running Bliss

Wow. I’ve stumbled across what I believe may warrant a patent:

Evening before Run meal (approx. 800 Hershey’s Kisses + 1/2 bottle red wine) + Morning of Run meal (Whole wheat blueberry pancakes + lots of coffee with soy milk) + Weather (63 degrees and sunny) – Child (Pitter in baby stroller) = Possibly the Best Run In 2 Years

I ran for an hour but could have gone longer. I stopped myself before I became exhausted because I didn’t want to tap out all of the energy. It was very tempting to push it and see how long I could go. The freedom of running without pushing a stroller was fantastic. I felt like I weighed nothing, like I have never been tired in my life, like my IT band has never made itself known, like I could run quickly and run forever. I felt like I was above my body–that its limitations were irrelevant.

In other words, I got THE HIGH. This is why we run in the cold, on the dreariest of days, on the hottest, humid days—we’re in search of the high. And God, when we achieve it, there’s no stopping anything.

I feel like I could do anything, be anything, live forever. This body of mine is a wonderful machine.
