8 Things That Happened Yesterday (Okay…these things all happened on Tuesday because I started this post on Wednesday and I simply do no have the energy to update this list. I promise Tuesday was *more* interesting than Wednesday. Believe me.)
1. I ate 10,000 calories in Halloween chocolate
2. One of my brothers arrived to stay for a few days while on his way from Colorado to New York. The insane ingestion of candy is not unrelated to this little fact. *stress*
3. I took the boys to the local library and Pitter impressed me with his mad puzzle skillz in the playroom.
4. I allowed Pitter to watch a good chunk of Mary Poppins out of shear exhaustion.
5. I remained unbathed.
6. I refrained from swatting Pitter’s butt for deliberately hitting Patter in the head with something. Because violence should not beget violence. *And yet this is difficult for me to remember in the moment*
7. I danced to Soul Coughing.
8. I got a relatively decent night’s sleep.
8 Things I Look Forward To:
1. Sleeping through the night. Sometime in late 2009?
2. Finding the time/choosing to prioritize the time to write the short story I’ve been working on in my head all month.
3. Running without my knee joints and pelvis causing me pain because my ligaments are still messed up from pregnancy. Or maybe that only gets worse because I’m getting older?
4. Reading Devil in the White City while nursing Patter in the middle of the deep, quiet night. Why did I wait so many years to pick this one up? It’s fascinating!
5. Fitting into my jeans again.
6. Sleeping in the same bed as my husband again, once Patter is big enough to safely handle two parents co-sleeping in the same space.
7. Celebrating our upcoming 5th wedding anniversary in some manner or other.
8. The election.
8 Things I Love About Fall:
1. Wearing sweaters
2. Pumpkin butter, pumpkin pie, pumpkin soup, pumpkin muffins, pumpkin coffee, pumpkin everything
3. The best apples of the year
4. The best running weather of the year
5. The sound of raking leaves
6. The end of baseball season

8 Things On My Wish List:
1. Canon Digital Rebel xti camera
2. Sleep
3. Sleep
4. Sleep
5. I think you know where this is going,
6. And more sleep
7. With nice puffy sleep
8. On top of sleep.
8 Things I Am Passionate About:
1. Nursing
2. Reading and writing
3. Women’s and children’s rights
4. Runnner’s highs
5. Grooving to music
6. Sunlight
7. Coffee
8. Traveling
8 Words or Phrases I Use Often:
1. Stop!
2. Frick and frack!
3. Do you want your milk?
4. Rats
5. Let’s not do that, okay?
6. Why don’t you go play thunder? (Don’t ask.)
7. Elmo is on vacation today.
8. Let’s count in french!
8 Things I Have Learned From My Past:
1. Meaningful things? Ack. Hmmm. Let’s start here: Smoking disables your ability to smell just how much you stink like an ashtray.
2. …but smoking a cigarette helps one look nonchalant while waiting for someone. Reading a book thankfully makes a decent substitute for a cancer stick, however.
3. It’s at the moment when you run out of patience after working very hard to be patient that you need to REMAIN patient.
4. Gazillions of people have already gone through every major life event you will go through. This makes it no less easy to go through the event yourself. But remembering this fact should help suck a little of the melodrama out of your own experience and help you move towards becoming a mature human being.
5. When you leave flowers in a vase for too long, the stems will begin to rot and mold in the water and produce an unpleasant odor. All good things come to an end.
6. People aren’t always able to say they are sorry for their wrongdoings. This does not give you the right to dwell on bad experiences while you wait for some New Age pop psychology apology moment. Be the grownup and move on.
7. It’s a cliche, but whatever takes the most effort provides the best rewards.
8. Most women can go out and get laid any day of the week. This does not mean they should.
8 Places I Would Love to Go See or Visit:
1. The Museum of Modern Art in its “new” location in Brooklyn (It’s been a while.)
2. The Grand Tetons
3. Vancouver
4. Colonial Williamsburg
5. Lake Tahoe
6. Australia/New Zealand
7. Japan
8. Scotland and England
8 Things I Currently Need or Want:
1. Isn’t this pretty much the same as Things on My Wishlist?
2. I think so.
3. See Wish list.
4. But I will say that my father is a stickler about the common error of interchanging the word “need” for “want.” As in, you don’t NEED orange juice. You WANT orange juice. You NEED liquid to stay alive, but it doesn’t NEED to be OJ.
5. Anyway.
6. I wouldn’t dare tag anyone to do this meme.
7. Why?
8. Because it took me two hours in total to complete! Oh, but I learned a great deal about myself in the process. So.

OH! Your list reminded me of something else I say often: “Ne sois pas desagreable!” (I have no idea if that’s how you spell it because I don’t write French. We only ever spoke it at home, never had cause to write it because my great-grandmother–who, as an interesting Hallowe’en sidenote, was a voodooienne– couldn’t read.) But I’m always telling my toddler not to be disagreeable, and he just laughs and laughs because, to him, French is the funniest thing on the planet. Evidently.

This is such a great meme! Thanks for sharing. It does look time-consuming, but perhaps I’ll do it.

I’m going to do this one, too. Thanks for the lead!
Also, I love love love Brothers & Sisters. I think it’s one of the most underrated shows on television right now.
Your wish list is close to my heart.

Oh, I’m so glad you took the time to do this. Learned a lot more about you–and about how much we have in common. Mary Poppins, not showering (already knew that, though, from twitter), Australia, leaving flowers til they get moldy….
